Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 July 2026
Dormee is a student housing platform operating in Lebanon. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We only describe things the platform actually does today — if we add a feature that changes this, we will update this page and, where the change is material, ask for your consent again.
1. Who we are
Dormee is an independent platform connecting university students in Lebanon with landlords offering student accommodation. We are not a real-estate agency, we do not own or manage any of the properties listed, and we are not a party to any rental agreement.
For any privacy question or request, contact support@dormee.co.
2. Information you give us
When you create an account: your name, email address, password (stored only as an encrypted hash — we never see it), and your role (student or landlord). Students are also asked which university they attend so we can show relevant listings.
When a landlord posts a listing: property details, neighbourhood, price, photos and videos, amenities, availability, a map location, and a contact phone number.
When you request verification: to award a "Verified" badge we ask you to submit identity and ownership documents through the verification form — typically a government ID or passport, and documents showing your right to rent the property (title deed, rental contract, or similar). Submitting these is entirely optional; you can use Dormee without a verified badge.
When you use the roommate board: the profile you choose to publish — budget, preferred area and university, gender preference, lifestyle tags, a short bio, and a contact method. Everything on this board is published by you, deliberately, and other signed-in students can see it. You can edit or delete it at any time.
When you message someone or report a listing: the content of your messages, and — for reports — the reason you gave, who you reported, and your account details. We keep a record of who reported whom so we can investigate patterns and act on repeat offenders.
3. Information we collect automatically
Basic technical data needed to run the site securely (IP address, browser type, and error logs).
How listings perform: how many times a listing was viewed, how many messages it received, and how many students saved it. Landlords can see these counts for their own listings — including the number of students who saved a listing, though never who they are.
If you consent to analytics cookies, aggregated usage statistics via Google Analytics (see section 6).
4. How we use your information
•To operate the platform: showing listings, running search and filters, delivering messages, and keeping you signed in.
•To review listings before they go live, and to flag listings missing essential information such as photos or a map location.
•To verify identity and property ownership when you request a verified badge.
•To send you emails you asked for: account confirmations, message notifications, and — only if you opted in — alerts when a new listing matches a search you saved.
•To investigate reports, prevent fraud and scams, and enforce our Terms.
•To understand, in aggregate, how the platform is used so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
5. Who can see what
Public: listing content (photos, price, neighbourhood, amenities, general location) and the landlord's display name.
Signed-in students only: roommate board profiles, and contact details revealed on request.
The landlord of a listing: the number of views, messages, and saves that listing received, and the content of messages you send them.
Dormee staff only: your email address, verification documents, reports, and message contents where needed to investigate a complaint. Access is limited to the people who administer the platform.
Service providers who process data on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Resend (transactional email), and Google Analytics (only with your consent). We do not use payment processors, because no payment is taken on this website — see section 9.
6. Cookies and analytics
Strictly necessary cookies keep you signed in, remember your language, and protect forms. These cannot be turned off — the site does not function without them.
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) tell us which listings, universities and areas students actually browse, so we know what to improve. These load only if you accept them, and IP addresses are anonymised.
Advertising cookies would let us measure whether advertising we run elsewhere brings students to Dormee. We are not running any advertising at present and this category stays switched off unless and until you turn it on.
You chose your preferences when you first visited. You can change them at any time from your , from the link in the footer, or from the Privacy section of your profile — including withdrawing consent you previously gave.
7. Verification documents
Identity and property documents are submitted through the verification form on the site and stored in a private, access-restricted area of our file storage. They are not public, are never attached to your listing, and are visible only to Dormee staff reviewing your request.
We use them for one purpose only: deciding whether to award a verified badge. Once a request is decided, we retain the documents only as long as needed to show why the badge was granted, and you may ask us to delete them at any time by emailing support@dormee.co.
Please do not send identity documents to us by any other channel.
8. Your rights
•Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
•Correct anything inaccurate — most of it you can edit yourself from your profile.
•Delete your account and its data. Listings you posted are removed with it.
•Withdraw consent for analytics or advertising cookies at any time.
•Unsubscribe from listing alerts, either from your saved searches page or the link in any alert email.
To exercise any of these, email support@dormee.co. We aim to respond within 30 days.
9. Payments
No payment is taken on this website. We do not ask for, receive, or store card numbers, and we do not use any online payment processor.
Where a landlord chooses to pay for an optional paid service, that arrangement is made directly with us and settled offline — typically through Whish Money or OMT. The only record we keep is an invoice showing what the service was and what was agreed.
Rent, deposits, and any money exchanged with a landlord are entirely between you and them. Dormee never handles them and cannot recover them.
10. Data retention and security
We keep your account data for as long as your account is open. Reports and moderation records may be kept longer where needed to protect other users.
Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure with row-level access controls, passwords are hashed, and traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit who can reach personal data to those who need it to run the platform.
11. Children
Dormee is intended for university students and adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will remove it.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. For material changes — such as introducing a new category of cookie or a new use of your data — we will ask for your consent again rather than relying on a silent update.
