Where AUB students actually live
Most AUB students end up in one of three areas: Hamra, Ras Beirut, or right on Bliss Street itself. Bliss Street is the closest you can get — a 5-minute walk to campus — but it's also the priciest and busiest, with cafés and traffic noise to match. Hamra, just a few minutes further out, is the classic student neighborhood: cheaper, full of other students, and walkable to almost everything.
A bit further from campus, Ras Beirut and the streets around Clemenceau offer quieter, more residential options — still an easy walk or short cab ride to AUB, but with less street noise at night.
What rent looks like
Prices vary a lot by unit type. A shared room in a flat with other students is the cheapest way to live near AUB. A studio or one-bedroom to yourself costs more, and prices climb the closer you get to the AUB gates. Furnished units cost more than unfurnished — worth deciding upfront which you actually need, since moving in with your own furniture from abroad usually isn't realistic for a semester or two.
Before you sign anything
Ask about generator hours before anything else — Lebanon's power cuts mean this actually determines your day-to-day comfort more than almost anything else in the listing. Ask specifically how many hours per day the generator runs, not just "yes we have a generator."
Confirm water supply separately from electricity — the two aren't the same thing here. And always ask to see the building's entrance and stairwell in photos or a video call before committing, especially if you're arranging things from outside Lebanon.
